Pinehaven has amazing wildlife, from tui and kereru to the nationally-threatened species popokatea (whitehead) and other rare species such as the putangitangi (paradise shelduck), karearea (NZ falcon), and riroriro (grey warbler). Pinehaven is an important link in the chain of forested areas from the Wainuiomata mainland island to the east, through Blue Mountains to Witako Reserve and Keith George Memorial Park, and therefore is a crucial project area for bringing birdsong back to Upper Hutt. We are already seeing great results and an increase in local birdlife. However, we need many more Pinehaven residents to have traps on their properties. Contact us to find out how you can join in. Pest Free Pinehaven is one of the project groups of Pest Free Upper Hutt. It is run by local volunteers.
