As we are situated close to the river, we are prone to pests, with possums, rats, and stoats seen in the area. We also had a huge number of rabbits until recently, but this has slowed down. As a very close-knit community we are very keen to get our area pest free. Many individuals are trapping, but we need to work together as a community to really make an impact. What triggered us to take action is that is has become very apparent with comments on our community Facebook page and Whatsapp group that there is a pest problem.
We would like to have a trap in every 5th property in Manor Park so that we can support and protect the local bird sanctuary and river on our doorstep from unwanted pests and see native birds, lizards, fauna and other animals thrive in our community.
As a community we have come together to successfully form an EmergencyHub, and we meet regularly. Most residents are on our allocated Facebook page or Whatsapp, so as a community communication is easy, and we are aware that many are keen to participate in this program.
