Blue Mountains is one of Upper Hutt’s more beautiful areas, and is home to rare native birds such as the koekoea (long-tailed cuckoo), the kiwi, and the titipounamu (rifleman). Backing to Whitemans Valley and the bush areas which extend to Wainui, it is one of the main pathways for native birds to re-settle Upper Hutt. We need to trap the possums, stoats, weasels, rats, and mice, so that these species, and others, can thrive.
We are already seeing great results and an increase in local birdlife. However, we need many more residents to trap for pests on their property. Contact us to find out how you can join in.
We can also advise on pest plants, and in particular, Old Man’s Beard.
Pest Free Blue Mountains is one of the project groups of Pest Free Upper Hutt. It is run by local volunteers, and urgently needs more locals to join in running the project as a community.
