We have a great spot at the head of Wellington’s Harbour where we experience a wide variety of native bird life coming off the Belmont Regional Park Hills and nesting in the dunes on the Esplanade. To help create an environment where our brilliant native birds can again thrive, we are doing our best to remove as many pests as possible. You can join Ngā Kaitārore ki Pito One to help return our environment to one where our native wildlife can again find food and shelter.
There are a number of ways you can be involved:
1. Backyard trapping - We can supply you with a tunnel and trap for your backyard and teach you how to use it safely. We do not charge for the traps.
2. Look after a trapline - Perhaps you’d be able to maintain a number of traps beyond your own property on the public areas around Pito-One, Melling and Alicetown?
3. Coordinate - We are keen to hear from people who have skills to share in helping to run the group. If you like social media, working with data, or are good with people we’d love to hear from you!
You can find us on Facebook where we keep the conversation going on making Ngā Kaitārore ki Pito One predator free.
