Korokoro Environmental Group has been distributing traps in boxes around the Korokoro community since 2018. Many of the contributors are also using our page on the TRAPNZ site to record their trapping successes. We now have around 30 houses using traps across the community, and are looking at purchasing another set of traps.
We also work with the Greater Wellington Regional Council (since about 2004), running a pest monitoring activity in the Korokoro Valley. This involves setting and checking inked card tunnels on ten ‘lines’ in the valley. The results informs Greater Wellington Regional Council pest control activities. Since pest control has been in place we have seen a marked shift downwards in pest numbers and an increase in bird numbers.
