In 2016, the New Zealand government introduced ‘Predator Free 2050’ - a plan to eradicate all marsupial and mammalian introduced predators from New Zealand by 2050. In order to succesfully achieve this goal Councils (and other agencies) are getting on board by supporting backyard trapping groups.
‘Predator Free Hutt Valley’ is a programme led by Hutt City Council and is supported by the Department of Conservation. This programme supports suburbs that are keen to start a trapping group- we offer the initial 50 traps/tunnels, advice, health & safety documents, best practice documents, and help organising the group’s first public meeting!
Pest Free Upper Hutt is supported by Upper Hutt City Council, the Department of Conservation and Forest & Bird.
